The hand that rocks the cradle does not simply rule the world, it can control the future. It goes without saying that children are deeply impressionable. 90% of childhood brain development happens before the age of 5. Daily experiences and encounters with others shape the way that children will think and act for the rest of their lives. Thus, what goes into a child’s mind during their early years is of the utmost importance.
What is that we are putting into children’s minds today? From dusk to dawn, television, advertisements, social media, bombard the eyes and ears of the twenty-first century child. Most children have access to tablets, televisions, computers, and cell-phones with little to no supervision. Even the best of parents who do attempt to monitor their children’s screen time can’t possibly be aware of everything they see.
Children are unquestionably the targets of content creators seeking to share a message and corporations seeking to make a profit. Children are the best consumers because they are impressionable and quick to imitate what they see.
It’s not a secret that Disney wants to feed the LGBTQ+ movement to children. Since 2017 Disney has produced at least 17 movies or TV shows with gay or transgender characters. These shows are intended for children – young children. A children’s Disney TV show, “Dino Ranch,” – intended for 2-5 year old children – aired an episode featuring a gay couple who wants to adopt a baby dino. This is not Disney simply representing homosexuality. They are teaching kids to praise it.
This kind of indoctrination is not new. Public school systems, newspapers, television, and other sources of media have long been outlets for indoctrination. It is not wrong for these outlets to spread information. Schools can teach children good things, newspapers can tell the truth, and television can tell stories beautifully. Yet whether the content is good or evil, children are always the most susceptible. The messages that are currently being spread are not merely social or political ideologies. The LGBTQ+ movement is an attack on fundamental reality.
Whether or not one agrees with the LGBTQ+ agenda, the powers that be are undisputedly effective at spreading their message. Queer characters are portrayed not simply as commonplace, but as special and celebrated. The abnormalities of transgenderism and homosexuality are praised rather than questioned. Even though many argue that this media won’t “turn kids queer,” it most definitely will make them desensitized.
It is not hard to believe that the increased presence of LGBTQ+ characters in children’s movies and TV shows has caused more and more children to question their gender and sexuality. Since 2017, the number of trans youth in the US has doubled. What used to be considered a mental condition is now a lifestyle that we are demanded to celebrate. Young children are led to believe that transgender and homosexual lifestyles are normal.
Media representation of the LGBTQ+ movement isn’t the only problem. It’s perhaps an even more serious problem when young children are exposed to teachers or other people of influence and authority who identify as queer and expected to adapt to accept their identity. When children are repeatedly told to celebrate abnormalities and encouraged to question their own gender or sexuality, they become more and more willing to accept unnatural things as natural. We are going to end up with a generation of children who are confused about fundamental issues of reality. The LGBTQ+ movement denies the existence of objective truth, reality, and moral standards. Many believe that male and female are not real distinctions, and it is certainly not necessary for marriage to be between a man and woman, or for children to be raised by a married mother and father.
This is not simply a rebuttal of a societal norm, it is an assault on basic truth and fundamental reality. Like it or not, human life cannot continue when reproductive organs are mutilated to appease delusions, or when two people of the same sex pretend to live a married lifestyle.
This does not mean that children should be forever sheltered from knowing about the LGBTQ+ movement, or that they should be taught to hate anyone. But compassion does not equal tolerance. Children eventually do need to understand what the LGBTQ+ movement is, however, they need to understand the truth before being exposed to lies. Children need to have compassion for these people who are afflicted by delusion and mental illness. Parents should have the right to decide when and how they want to teach their children about the brokenness of humanity, and not be forced to allow their children to be taught that mental illness is normal.
When children grow up detached from reality, there is no way to create a functioning society. Without a proper understanding of human nature, it is impossible to make choices that will support the flourishing of human life. The LGBTQ+ movement is particularly dangerous because it is sanctioning blatant lies about basic reality. If children grow with a warped understanding of reality, they will become desensitized to insanity.
As Christians it is our duty to live our faith and proclaim the truth unapologetically. We have to pass on a love of the truth to future generations, so they will not be brainwashed with a false conception of reality.
