Ella Emhoff, the step-daughter of Kamala Harris, was eager to make a name for herself in 2024. As she built her social media following through TikTok and Instagram, she clearly wanted recognition for her radical leftist views. Ella is a member of the socialist elite. She was born into a wealthy family, attended an expensive LA charter school, and can often be seen sporting designer clothing that likely costs more than the average midwesterner’s rent. At the same time, she’s also taken on the role of a liberal activist. She wants to “Free Palestine,” support transgender rights, and fight for LGBTQ+ representation.
Recently, she posted a video of herself looking morose and tired. Despite her “career” as an influencer and model, Ella’s followers were supposed to take pity on her because she experiences “A lot of climate anxiety.”
It’s hard to feel bad for someone like Ella, who has embraced the spoils of wealth without having to sacrifice any of her own effort. She landed a coveted spot at the internationally acclaimed New York Fashion Week for her collection titled “Ella Emhoff Likes to Knit.” She landed a job with an international modeling agency specifically because of her tattoos, body hair, and “unique style” that is notably androgynous. She lives the silver spooned lifestyle of a limousine liberal. She makes a living for herself riding off of the hard work of both her parents and the great men who built this country’s infrastructure.
“Climate Anxiety” is an incredible problem to have. Most blue collar Americans have genuine concerns like mortgages, finding reliable education for their families, and dealing with the medical industrial complex.
Climate anxiety is the kind of problem people without problems have.
Ella is insulated by the surety of wealth and the job security that comes with famous parents. Yet, liberalism identifies itself through perpetual victimhood. Ella has no genuine problems, graduating from a New York City college with a Fine Arts degree and getting praised for her outfit choices in “Vogue“. Still, the liberal mindset means that she can’t be grateful for her position in society. She still has to pretend to be an injured party.
Ella’s video starkly contrasts with another series of videos that have gone viral this week: Young adults crying and yelling about their college debts and their inability to find jobs in the field of their degree. If we put aside the discussions about how childish these click-bait videos often are, we see the sad reality of most young people.
For years, college was promoted as the pinnacle of success. Teachers, recruiters, and well-meaning parents coaxed generations of children into believing that a college degree was a guaranteed ticket to success. Unfortunately, there is a lower wage benefit, higher competition in concentrated job markets, and the overwhelming burden of student loans. None of these realities absolve these college graduates from the debts they acquired while attending school. Still, we have to recognize that many of the people finding themselves in these tough situations were lied to by liberal activists that Universities were the measure of success and the surefire way to advance our society.
For social elitists like Ella, getting a fine arts degree and a job as an activist is a no-brainer. These are feel-good positions meant to occupy the luxurious lifestyles of those who don’t have to worry about scrapping together enough money for groceries each week.
The young people who follow Ella for her politics or her quirky fashion designs should feel insulted. Ella is telling them that they should spare some empathy for her because she is anxious. Anxiety can be a very real problem for many individuals. It can cause an increased heart rate, panic attacks, and digestive issues. But perhaps the best way to deal with these personal issues and fears is not by posting about it online to 50,000 followers.
The reason people post videos like this online is usually because they are fishing for sympathy. Liberals need this kind of sympathy to keep themselves feeling relevant. It’s a constant game of who can be the most oppressed, who can achieve the greatest level of victimhood.
Most young people are now waking up to the fact that they have drowned themselves in student loans over degrees with minimal lasting importance. Their anxieties about the future feel much more genuine when compared to the climate concerns of a nepotism activist. If the Left wants to be relevant, they’re going to have to stop shuttering themselves off from the middle class. For a party built on greed and selfishness, that may be an insurmountable task.
